Windak: 30% Faster Goods Dispatch Thanks to Automated Warehouse Processes

Windak, a developer and manufacturer of cable packaging systems, has been active for almost 30 years, with more than two decades in Estonia.

The company operates as a technology-oriented manufacturing business, where the optimisation and automation of production processes, along with continuous innovation, are at the core of its strategic development. Windak serves customers worldwide and, in recent years, has placed strong emphasis on the digitalisation of its workflows.

Excessive Paperwork Highlighted the Need for Digitalisation

“In recent years, we have invested heavily in digitalisation and moved steadily towards a paper-free working environment,” says Kädly Põld, Supply Chain Manager at Windak.

Previously, the dispatch of goods at Windak relied entirely on paper-based documentation, including assembly lists, technical drawings, and delivery notes. This meant extensive manual data re-entry for employees, resulting in significant time loss.

This led to a key question: how could warehouse processes be automated to minimise paper use and ensure that data from external devices flows into the existing information system in real time?

Cloudics Warehouse Application Provides Mobile and Flexible Access

In search of a solution, Windak turned to Astro Baltics and its Cloudics warehouse application, compatible with most industrial-grade scanners.

The Cloudics warehouse application provides flexible and mobile access to warehouses of all sizes. Thanks to its extensive functionality, the application enables fast inventory counts, supports a wide range of goods-related operations, and allows efficient order assembly for inbound deliveries, outbound dispatch, and transfers between warehouses.

As Windak’s daily business logic runs on the Monitor ERP system, an additional integration layer was required between Monitor and Cloudics. For this purpose, the NOOM software was selected.

The Cloudics warehouse application can be used on an Android-based handheld devices or smartphone.

NOOM Software as a Critical Integration Layer Between Cloudics and Monitor

This marked the first-ever integration between NOOM and Monitor, meaning the project extended beyond a standard software rollout and included custom development.

“As expected, the implementation phase took slightly longer than initially planned,” explains Kädly. “From the start, we knew this would be the first connection between NOOM and Monitor, so we were prepared for additional complexity.”

As a result of the completed project, information now flows smoothly and in real time, without paper documentation or duplicate data entry.

Automation Clearly Reflects in Windak’s Day-to-Day Operations

“Today, drawings and schematics are viewed on tablets instead of paper. Notifications related to production issues are also handled automatically,” says Kädly.

Delivery notes, which had previously been printed in duplicate, are now fully digitalised and stored as PDFs, Indrek Sopp, Head of After-Sales, confirms. As a result, paperwork at Windak has been significantly reduced across the organisation.

Automated processes not only make work more convenient but also deliver real, measurable time savings.

30% Faster Goods Dispatch

“Thanks to Cloudics, we estimate that our dispatch process is now approximately 30% faster. We also have much better visibility into how much work has been completed and how much remains. At the same time, we are already collecting data on dispatch times that we can use for planning in the future,” explains Kädly.

Indrek adds that faster warehouse dispatch also has a direct impact on production: “The Cloudics application helps reduce assembly time by around 30%, which in turn improves the efficiency of the production process.”

Positive Changes in Workflow

Windak’s employees have quickly adopted the warehouse application and the custom solutions developed for them.

“Our employees were looking forward to this solution. They are very satisfied with the scanners and clearly see that their work has become faster and easier,” says Kädly, referring to the positive feedback received from staff.

Tailored and purpose-built solutions have also improved overall employee morale. “The digitalisation process at Windak has led to higher employee satisfaction. Processes are more transparent, and employees know exactly what they need to do. This undoubtedly supports overall operational performance.”

Vision for the Future

Although the digitalisation of the warehouse dispatch process is nearing completion, further phases of the Windak digitalisation project are already planned.

“When we started the project with Astro Baltics, it was designed in several stages. Today, we are reaching the final phase of the warehouse dispatch process. Next, we will move on to assembling smaller sales orders and, in the future, also add goods receipt functionality to Cloudics,” Kädly outlines.

Indrek is equally enthusiastic about continuing the collaboration: “I expect significant benefits from the NOOM and Cloudics solution. While we already know that paper-free processes work very well for production orders, we have not yet used them in after-sales, and I am really looking forward to that.”

Who is the Cloudics Warehouse Application Suitable For?

According to Kädly, the application is suitable for a wide range of companies. “Cloudics is a good fit for manufacturing companies and for Monitor ERP system users who want to extend their mobile capabilities. It’s a proven solution.”

Indrek adds that the application is suitable for any company aiming to reduce paper handling and time spent on manual processes. He encourages potential users to take the first step and contact Astro Baltics.
